HP gets firmware Class Action dismissed

The action was first brought by Florida based John Parziale and others on 27 August 2019 this year in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, HP’s principal place of business and headquarters.
The complaint sought to stop HP’s practice of modifying and corrupting Purchasers’ printers by forcing unauthorised changes to their firmware and to obtain redress for all Purchasers Nationwide (“Class Members”) who, within the applicable statute of limitations period, had their HP Printers modified to stop recognising and accepting third party ink cartridges.
On 29 September 2020, the Court granted HP’s motion to dismiss. The documents state: “Pursuant to Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 58, the Court hereby ENTERS judgment in favour of Defendant and against Plaintiff. The Clerk of Court shall close the file in this matter.” United States District Judge Edward J. Davila filed the judgement, closing the Class Action for good.
