Canon recognised by IDC

February 13, 2024

Canon has been named a leader in IDC’s MarketScape “Worldwide Sustainability Programmes and Services Hardcopy”.

Canon Inc. announced that it was named a “Leader” in “IDC MarketScape for Worldwide Sustainability Programmes and Services Hardcopy 2023 Vendor Assessment,” the latest report from IDC, the US-based IT research firm.

This report marks the first corporate assessment from the perspective of sustainability.

The survey evaluated 11 of the world’s hardcopy vendors across metrics such as corporate strategies, business operations and products in the context of sustainability. As sustainability initiatives have recently become crucial in business decision-making, companies who are procuring printing-related products or services can use the results of this survey as a guide when selecting vendors.

According to IDC MarketScape, “Organisations should consider Canon if they are looking for a hardcopy vendor that offers a holistic approach to cover every facet of sustainability, spanning business operations, products and business models, and governance/compliance. Canon should also be considered by those organisations looking for a supplier that can help the company advance its own sustainability objectives through the deployment of innovative solutions and technology.”

Since 1988, Canon has adopted the corporate philosophy of “kyosei” and has aspired to create a society in which all people live and work together harmoniously for the common good for many years to come, regardless of culture, custom, language or ethnicity. Based on this corporate philosophy, Canon has also been at the forefront of initiatives to protect the environment to build harmonious relationships with the Earth and the natural environment. Since 2008, the company has been working to achieve an annual average improvement of 3% in lifecycle CO2 emissions per product. As a result, it has achieved a cumulative improvement of 44.2% (preliminary figures) by 2023.

By 2030, it aims to reduce emissions by 50% from the 2008 baseline, and by 2050 aims to cut its CO2 emissions across product lifecycles to net zero by working together with society.

Canon added that it is committed to continue actively working toward the realisation of a sustainable society through all of its corporate activities.
