Ricoh recognised by Ministry of Environment

March 4, 2024

Ricoh’s Eco Business Development Centre’s green space has been certified as Other Effective area-based Conservation Measures by the Ministry of Environment, Japan.

Ricoh announced that the green space of Ricoh Eco Business Development Centre in Gotemba City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, has been certified as Other Effective area-based Conservation Measure (OECM) by the Ministry of Environment (MOE), Japan. This marks the second certification for Ricoh by MOE’s fiscal 2023 OECM certification system, following the first certification of Ricoh Ena Forest in October 2023.

This certification recognised Ricoh for maintaining an environment suitable for insect habitat. A rich natural environment at the foot of Mt. Fuji, the certified 2.2-hectare green space within the Ricoh Eco Business Development Centre premise has plantation trees such as cypress, Chinese cork oak, and cherry, bamboo groves, grasslands, and regulating ponds, and is home to a wide variety of species such as butterflies, dragonflies, beetles, and cicadas, creating a distinctive ecosystem. In particular, 33 species of butterflies have been confirmed, including Parnassius citrinarius, damselfly, and Neope goschkevitschii.

OECM is MOE-led initiative in Japan, based on the G7 2030 Nature Compact at the G7 Cornwall Summit in June 2021, that stipulates that the G7 nations to lead by example, conserving or protecting at least 30% of their land and coastal and marine areas by 2030 (30by30). The OECM certification system was launched in 2023. The Ricoh Group has been participating in 30by30 Alliance for biodiversity since its establishment in Japan in April 2022 and actively engaged.
