17 years and 45 million cartridges recycled

Australian initiative Cartridges 4 Planet Ark has reported it has surpassed the 45 million mark of recycled cartridges since it first began collecting in 2003.
Ahead of Global Recycling Day on 18 March with its theme of ‘Recycling Heroes’ Cartridges 4 Planet Ark acknowledges and thanks its recycling heroes across Australian workplaces, schools and homes who have helped recycle over 45 million printer cartridges since the programme began in 2003.
Cartridges 4 Planet Ark’s participating manufacturers, Brother, Canon, Epson, HP, Konica Minolta and Kyocera are major contributors to the recycling programme. Cartridges 4 Planet Ark explained that collectively these manufacturers have proactively and voluntarily joined together to take responsibility for the end of life of their printer cartridges and provide a national programme for homes and workplaces across the country to have access to a free and accessible recycling programme.
One of Cartridges 4 Planet Ark recycling partners is Close The Loop, a Melbourne based recycler who not only achieves a zero waste to landfill promise but also, are innovators in finding end products for printer cartridges to be turned into like its patented Toner Plas additive made from cartridge toner, soft plastics and recycled glass. When put into asphalt this makes the road stronger and is more sustainable than normal asphalt.
Cartridges 4 Planet Ark’s next milestone is 50 million.
