The Hardware Reuse Perspective

GM Technology COO, José Ángel Muñoz, shares his company’s perspective on hardware reuse in Europe and beyond –- A look at the market today and how it might evolve in the future.

Speaker: José Ángel Muñoz, COO, GM Technology.

The fascinating world of components, spare parts and the remanufacturing process.

We and our clients face daily challenges. A lack of skilled personnel is a significant barrier. EU regulations, like the Right to Repair, are essential to improving sustainability but will present the market with many challenges. A priority is the need to improve the abilities and availability of technicians.

Speaker: Karolina Wrzesniak-Cwyl, COO, Biuromax.

HP solution to enhance remanufacturing

HP has always considered the environment in the design of our products. With an increased focus on circularity, one of the next areas of innovation is how to restore the ink/toner level tracking and properly message remanufactured supplies with the original HP chip.  In this talk, HP will outline our proposed solution to enhance the remanufacturing of HP empty ink and toner cartridges.

Speakers: Steve Castle, Technologist, and Daniel Chappel, Sustainability and Compliance Lawyer at Hewlett Packard Inc.

14:40 – 15:10.   Afternoon Coffee

15:10 – 17:20.   Regulatory Session

The ETIRA Forecast: Legislative Developments and Strategic Market Adaptations

Vincent van Dijk sets out the ETIRA perspective of the inkjet and toner remanufacturing industry’s landscape, which is on the cusp of significant change. This seminar will provide a forecast of the legislative developments on the horizon and offer strategic responses to ensure market adaptability.

Speaker: Vincent van Dijk, Secretary General, ETIRA

Regulatory Shifts Reshaping Imaging Consumables Landscape

The regulation of IE in Europe has a high potential to shrink the aftermarket chip industry for imaging equipment consumables, as increased OEM chip and resetting will reduce third-party chip demand. OEMs are clamping down on empty cartridge supplies, launching initiatives like Circular Planet and subscription models. Delacamp CartMart® marketplace wants to create a counterpole. These changes, along with evolving EU and US chemical regulations, are reshaping toner, drum, and consumable constituents and supply. The current drafting of the US EPEAT Imaging Equipment Consumables Criteria reveals how relevant OEMs want to shape their future in view of more and more pressure to become more circular.

Speaker: Volker Kappius, CEO, Delacamp

Cartridge Legality and Compliance: Today and 1st Quarter 2025 – What Changes?

A comprehensive overview of the current landscape regarding printer cartridges, focusing on regulations, compliance requirements, and intellectual property issues as they stand today. It will then project forward into the first quarter of 2025 to forecast potential changes and developments in these areas.

Speaker: Javier Martinez, President of ETIRA

11:20 – 12:10     The Five Year, Way We Work, Roller Coaster: Hold on tight, it’s only just begun!

In 2019 it was business as usual. We commuted to the office, flew to trade shows and conferences, and met in stuffy meeting rooms, but our home and business lives intersected only when planned or necessary. Today, we have work-based conversations over Teams and with generative AI at home several days a week. And printing, well, do we still need to do that?

How did we get here, and what does the future hold? Peter Mayhew and Deborah Hawkins will discuss the dramatic changes in the recent past and call on the latest primary research by Keypoint Intelligence into workplace trends to visualise the Future of Work.

Speakers: Deborah Hawkins, Director within the Office Document Technologies Group and Peter Mayhew, Principal Analyst, Keypoint Intelligence.

12:10 – 13:00.   The European New Build Market

Exploring Europe’s new built printer cartridge market at a challenging and pivotal moment, this presentation delves into the sector’s challenges and opportunities amid upcoming legislation. We’ll examine the environmental and compliance scrutiny, market dynamics influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical tensions, and the strategic shifts required for companies to adapt to ecolabelling legislation. Emphasising sustainability and the circular economy, the discussion highlights the need for innovation, transparency, and responsibility to meet stringent EU standards, offering a glimpse into the future of the European office imaging sector.

Speaker: David Connett, Partner at Connett & Unland GbR
