Dye-Based Ink

Dye-based ink is the more traditional and commonly used type of ink in desktop inkjet printers. It is made from water-soluble dyes that dissolve in the ink carrier (usually water) to create a coloured liquid. Dye-based inks are known for their vibrant colours and smooth colour blending, which makes them ideal for printing high-quality photographs and images.

Key characteristics of dye-based ink:

Colour Vibrancy: Dye-based inks produce vibrant and vivid colours, making them excellent for printing photos and graphics with rich colour palettes.

Quick Drying: Dye-based inks typically dry quickly on plain paper, which allows for faster print output and reduces the chances of smudging.

Absorbent Paper: Dye-based inks work best on plain or semi-glossy paper since they are absorbed into the paper fibres, resulting in sharp image reproduction.

Fading: One drawback of dye-based ink is that it may be more prone to fading over time when exposed to light and environmental factors. Therefore, prints made with dye-based inks may have reduced longevity compared to pigment-based inks.

Water Solubility: Dye-based inks are water-soluble, making them susceptible to smudging or running if they come into contact with moisture.
