In a thought-provoking new interview from WhatTheyThink, Jennifer Matt speaks to Jane Mugford, Print MIS Consultant with Web2Print Experts, about the importance of making businesses software-run rather than people-run.
According to Jane, you can tell within minutes of entering any print shop whether that shop is being managed by people or by software, and in the case of the former it can often be difficult for a business owner to be certain of crucial data as there is no one foolproof system for storing it. As a result, reports can take a lengthy period of time to compile and their findings may not be accurate, due to the fact that there are islands of data and sidelined MIS information in the form of Post-it notes, papers and Excel files which have not been entered into the main system.
During the course of the interview Jane describes how she helped one particular business address its grossly inaccurate data calculations and highlights the importance of having a trusted system of record; in other words, how to make your business a software-driven one rather than relying on people and having to suffer the inevitable consequences of human error.
