October 5, 2011 Latest reports from the BBC indicate that three people remain in hospital in the aftermath of an explosion and fire at a cartridge recycling company in the UK. As The Recycler reported, Surrey-based cartridge recycler eReco suffered a serious explosion on Monday morning, resulting in a mass evacuation and eight staff being hospitalised. Five people have now been released after being treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation. However, three remain hospitalized after suffering severe burns and being airlifted to hospital. The blast occurred on Monday morning at the Hobbs Industrial Estate in Newchapel, Surrey, and is believed to have been caused by gas canisters. Eye witnesses described the huge scale of the explosion, which shook local residents’ houses. The BBC reports that part of the industrial estate has opened for business. Meanwhile the Environmental Agency is working to limit environmental damage to the surrounding area. Local police, fire service and the Health and Safety Executive are to investigate the cause of the explosion. Categories :
