Labour politician Barry Sheerman (pictured) further recommended that the European Commission “properly and legally” define what remanufacturing is, with the industry worth £2.4 billion (€3.3 billion/$3.6 billion) in the UK alone, Materials Recycling World reported.
Laura Owen, Head of Sustainability at Policy Connect and the Manager of the APSRG, said: “I am thrilled that the Commission recognises the contribution that remanufacturing can have in moving towards a CE (circular economy), and defines it as in [our] recent remanufacturing report.
“I am excited to be working with the Commission on this important topic as well as other areas that can contribute significantly to meeting the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and other resource-efficiency targets, such as a 65 percent recycling target.”
The new circular economy package was launched earlier this week, with a packaging waste recycling target of 75 percent for member states by 2030.
