Printer shipments increase across EMEA
June 17, 2014
Context reported a nine percent increase in EMEA shipments in the first quarter of 2014.
The analysts stated that unit shipments across the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa) had increased year-on-year by nine percent, with Western European shipments growing by 10 percent in particular over the course of the year.
On a country-by-country basis in Western Europe, Ireland, Austria, the UK and Spain saw huge growths of 51 percent, 37 percent, 31 percent and 28 percent in shipments respectively, with a host of other nations also seeing growth. Germany however saw a fall in unit shipments of one percent, whilst Portugal saw a decline of six percent in shipments.
Italy, Norway, Denmark and Belgium were the only other Western European nations to see double-digit growth, with 13 percent, 12 percent, 11 percent and 10 percent growth respectively. Beyond this, Finland, Greece, the Netherlands and Switzerland saw nine percent, eight percent, seven percent and three percent growth, whist both France and Sweden only saw one percent growth.
Context noted that both laser and inkjet MFPs “contributed to the UK growth” whilst Spain saw “positive double digit growth in all categories”, but it was in the Middle East and Africa where the “strongest” shipment growth was seen of 20 percent across the board “boosted by double-digit laser and inkjet MFP shipments” in both the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia. Turkey in turn saw printer hardware shipments increase by eight percent in this first quarter.
In contrast to these positive figures, shipments to the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region fell by four percent in the quarter, with Russia, the “largest market in the region”, seeing a one percent decline in shipments in the first quarter compared to last year. Zivile Brazdziunaite, Imaging Market Analyst at Context, stated of the Western European results that “the majority […] registered positive year-on?year unit shipments growth in Q1 2014, driven mostly by multifunction laser and inkjet technology printers”.
IDC recently reported on the European hardcopy peripherals market’s growth in the first quarter, and Context had previously reported in late 2013 on the “increase” in EMEA hardware shipments.
