New patent troll on the loose?

A company called OpenPrint LLC filed three lawsuits on 3 August 2017 with the United States District Court for the District of Delaware to sue HP Inc, OKI and Panasonic for patent infringement.

The court papers seen by The Recycler describe that OpenPrint LLC is a Texas, US based company located at 5068 W. Plano Parkway, Suite 300, Plano, TX 75093.

The patents in question are US Patent No. 6,209,993 (the “993 Patent”) titled “Structure and Fabricating Method for Ink-Jet Printhead Chip”, US Patent No. 8,547,601 (the “’601 Patent”) titled “Facsimile to E-Mail Communication System”, US Patent No. 6,717,699 (the “’699 Patent”) titled “Method for Hybrid Printing”, US Patent No. 6,023,345 (the “’345 Patent”) titled “Facsimile to E-Mail Communication System with Local Interface”, US Patent No. 7,446,906 (the “’906 Patent”) titled “Facsimile to E-Mail Communication System with Local Interface”, US Patent No. 6,381,313 (the “’313 Patent”) titled “Fax Routing System and Method using Standard Fax Machine and Personal Computer”, US Patent No. 6,639,974 (the “’974 Patent”) titled “Fax Routing System and Method using Standard Fax Machine and Personal Computer” and US Patent No. 8,941,888 (the “’888 Patent”)  titled “Facsimile to E-Mail Communication System with Local Interface”, all owned by Openprint LLC, according to the court papers.

Openprint LLC is alleging that HP Inc is infringing the “993 patent” through making or having made the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Printhead. Also, the printer allegedly infringes the “601 patent”. Furthermore Openprint claims that the HP Indigo 12000, the HP Indigo 7900, the HP Indigo 5900, the HP Indigo 50000, the HP Indigo 20000, the HP Indigo 8000, the HP Indigo W7250, the HP Indigo  S6800p, the HP Indigo 30000, the HP Indigo 20000, the HP Indigo 8000, the HP Indigo WS6800, the HP Indigo 7r, the HP Indigo 6r, and the HP Indigo 5r presses all infringe the “699 patent”.

Oki is accused to infringe the “345 patent”, “601 patent”  and “906 patent” with the OKI Data MC363dn, MC873dn, ES9465/ES9475, MB472w, MB492/MB562w, MB760+/MB770+, MC573dn, and MC770+/MC780+ printers.

Panasonic allegedly infringes the “345 patent”, “906 patent”, “601 patent”, “313 patent”, “974 patent” and “888 patent” with the Panasonic UF-8200 and the Panasonic UF-7200 machines.

In all three cases, Openprint LLC is asking for a trial by jury to get judgement that the three accused parties have infringed their patents and in compensation, is looking to get damages and legal fees paid by the defendants.
