MFP shipments grow in Western Europe
March 16, 2015
Shipments grew two percent in the EMEA in the final quarter of 2014.
Market analysts CONTEXT reported on the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) market, with laser MFP shipments registering “positive year-on-year performance” through a growth of two percent, driven by a 13 percent increase in shipments in Western Europe during the same time period.
Overall, printer hardware unit shipments across the EMEA fell by three percent in the final quarter of 2014, with a “slight” fall in inkjet MFP unit shipments – a segment which accounts for “more than half of all printer hardware devices shipped” to the region in 2014. Single-function printers meanwhile saw a continued decline in volume in the region for the same quarter.
In Western Europe specifically, hardware shipments fell one percent year-on-year largely due to “negative performance” in both France and the UK (with unit shipments falling three and nine percent respectively), while Germany recorded a growth of eight percent. Other Western European countries saw mixed fortunes, with Austria, Belgium and Denmark seeing 26 percent, 15 percent and 23 percent declines respectively.
In turn, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal and Switzerland saw falls of 73 percent, 25 percent, 19 percent and 10 percent respectively, while a range of countries actually did see growth in shipments in contrast. Finland, Greece, Iceland and Ireland saw growth of four percent, 15 percent, two percent and 12 percent respectively, while Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden saw growth of three percent, 11 percent, three percent and 13 percent respectively.
The Central and Eastern European (CEE) nations saw a combined nine percent yearly decline as a result of “continuing poor performance in Russia”, where the “political situation continues to deteriorate”, and has “contributed to the overall performance of the region”. Conversely, the Czech Republic and Romania saw growth in shipments of five and three percent respectively, and CONTEXT notes that this is “once again driven by the strong performance of laser MFPs”.
Zivile Brazdziunaite, Imaging Market Analyst at CONTEXT, commented: “The Middle East and Africa mirrored overall EMEA performance by recording a decline of three percent year-on-year, driven by the negative printer hardware performance of the UAE and Turkey. Saudi Arabia and Israel recorded double- digit growth due to increased unit shipments of multi-function devices.”
