With the Internet of Things (IoT), Industry 4.0 and Data Handling, digitisation has also reached manufacturing companies. Konica Minolta has opened the Digital Manufacturing Hub at its Darmstadt site to partner with and support customers in this development and transformation process.

It is the global headquarters of the newly created Digital Manufacturing Business Unit.

With the opening of its new Digital Manufacturing Hub, Konica Minolta is launching the expansion of its well-known and reliable IT services and complete solutions for optimizing document-intensive business processes in the B2B area. They will be supplemented by competences in the areas of sensor technology and visualization technologies in which Konica Minolta has many years of experience.

“The goal of the new business is to work with and for Konica Minolta to develop and implement solutions for the digital transformation process,” said Yuji Ichimura, President, Industrial Optical System Business Headquarters. Konica Minolta will involve various cooperation partners for this purpose. The focus should be on the field of visualization in all its facets, in order to make optimization potential visible and usable.

As part of the opening event, in addition to specialist lectures, by u. a. Technische Universität Darmstadt, a discussion forum also presented live demonstrations of first solutions.

Responsible for the Digital Manufacturing Business Unit worldwide is Johannes Bischof, President of Konica Minolta Business Solutions Germany. He will be assisted by Steve Rommel, who will lead the Digital Manufacturing Hub in Darmstadt in his new role. Rommel brings many years of cross-industry manufacturing experience to global operations and research and development into the hub.

“For Konica Minolta, the establishment of the new business unit is another important milestone in the continuation of our successful corporate history. In our Digital Manufacturing Hub, we will combine our innovative strength and expertise to develop forward-looking solutions specifically for manufacturing companies. We are sure that we have found an ideal location with Darmstadt, “explains Johannes Bischof.

The opening of the Konica Minolta Digital Manufacturing Hub is also of particular importance for the Darmstadt region, which was represented at the opening by Mayor Jochen Partsch and the head of the Office of Economic Development, Michael Kolmer.

“Darmstadt is already a vibrant digital city and was recently awarded the Bitkom. In our region, research and development, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit meet cosmopolitan and technology-savvy people. The technology company Konica Minolta and its Digital Manufacturing Hub are perfectly suited to this environment and we are therefore very pleased that the site was chosen for Darmstadt, “said Mayor Jochen Partsch.
