ISC’s product authentication program expands

The WIDCIO anti-counterfeiting program will now enable authentication of products protected by US ITC Exclusion Orders.
The Imaging Supplies Coalition (ISC) has announced that its anti-counterfeiting program, When In Doubt, Check It Out (WIDCIO) is to be expanded to enable authentication of products protected by US ITC Exclusion Orders, including products thought to be counterfeit that are presented as new OEM-branded products; new “compatible” “clone” products which are suspected to be in violation of a limited or general exclusion order; and products presented as empty OEM cores which are suspected to actually be new non-OEM cores.
ISC also states that the program will be updated to allow submission of suspicious products by digital photos as well as by revealing the physical product in question and submitting written allegations, with the identity of the program participant remaining confidential.
The WIDCIO program was first launched 16 years ago by ISC to allow dealers, distributors and customers to submit questionable imaging supplies such as ribbons, inkjet cartridges, laser cartridges, toners and developers for authentication. It is hoped by the ISC that the newly updated program, along with the ITC’s Exclusion Orders, will help to fight against compatible and clone cartridges that infringe OEM patents and can often lead to resellers who import products prohibited by an Exclusion Order to face penalties.
