HP targets counterfeits in Kenya

April 20, 2012

OEM vows to educate partners and consumers against fake printing supplies.

Printer manufacturer HP has announced its intentions to combat the proliferation of counterfeit products in Kenya, as World Intellectual Property Day rapidly approaches, reports Bikya Masr.

Tina Rose, Anti Counterfeit Programme Manager for EMEA, Printing and Personal Systems Group, HP, remarked that an increase in awareness would aid businesses and protect consumers from procuring illegitimate supplies.

“The celebration of World IP Day is about ensuring greater awareness and defence of intellectual property in all its forms, whether it’s to protect a musician’s lyrics, a scientist’s patents or, in the case of HP, proprietary printer cartridge technology.

“This can make Kenya an even better place to do business while also protecting society from the criminal element that appropriate the IP of others to defraud innocent consumers.”

Bikya Masr notes that this announcement comes “at a time when Kenya has been noted to be a high user of fake printing supplies”.
