In an article on Ghacks.net, it is reported that HP has launched a new version of an app for android devices which enables users to check their printer’s ink levels via a mobile phone or tablet, with a new feature added to the app allowing them to also locate where new cartridges can be bought if needed.
Using Version 2.0 of SureSupply, HP customers in the US can check ink levels remotely and find out where they can purchase a new cartridge by doing a search of their zip code and finding a local HP retailer. A map showing nearby stores as well as directions to the location and details about the store can then be viewed using the app.
The new version of SureSupply also boasts a “simplified design and navigation” as well as a “user-friendly FAQ section, and a direct link to assisted email support”. Customers using the app can also use the “verify” feature to check that a cartridge is authentic by scanning the security label on the cartridge’s packaging, with HP hoping that this will prevent customers from accidentally purchasing counterfeit cartridges. However, this may result in consumers being deterred from purchasing remanufactured cartridges as no distinction is made between counterfeit and remanufactured products.
SureSupply is free to download onto any android device running version 2.0 or newer.
