A report from TechSci Research entitled “Global Mobile Printers Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2020” made the $13 billion (€11 billion) prediction, driven by developments in wireless technology, cloud computing, integration in mobile printing solutions, as well as growth in the mobile workforce and rising demand for compact and portable printers, PR.com reported.
The report found that in 2014, the retail industry made up the largest revenue share in mobile printers, followed by the transportation and hospitality. There has also been growth in air travel and the railway equipment and supply industries, generating significant demand for handheld ticketing mechanisms that use portable printers. Leading portable printer suppliers include Epson, Toshiba, Zebra Technologies, Brother and Citizen Systems. Other factors causing the rise in the market are the “booming” retail & logistics sector, growth in e-commerce sales, a movement towards intelligent transportation systems, and overall improving economic conditions.
Karan Chechi, Research Director at TechSci Research, said that mobile printers that use thermal printing are dominating sales compared to inkjet because they “eliminate the need for ribbon or cartridges to print, and employ thermal paper for printing thereby resulting in reduced cost of replacement or refilling associated with traditional printers.
Additionally, increasing online retail sales, growing logistics sector and packaged food industry are driving demand for bar code label printers which would further propel the demand for mobile printers globally.”
