Germany agrees to electronic invoicing laws

The German Bundesrat has now agreed on the EU’s 2011 tax simplification laws, which gives electronic invoices equal treatment to paper ones.

Previously, electronic invoices needed to be transmitted using an EDI (electronic data
integration) process, or with a qualified electronic signature.

Under the new laws, any kind of electronic invoice, including email, will now be accepted, providing that the “authenticity of the origin of the invoice, integrity of the content, readability of the invoice” and “fulfillment of all invoicing requirements” are all met to an acceptable degree.
