169,452 defective inkjet printers spanning 16 different printer models to be recalled in the Chinese mainland by OEM.
Global Times reports that Epson China Co. is to recall thousands of defective inkjet printers in China this week, with the action being predominantly due to “design flaws in the power system protection that could result in carbonising and electric conduction at power input sockets under abnormal voltage”.
The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine added in a statement that the error could also lead to self-ignition, risking the user’s safety.
The printers were produced between 12 September 2011 and 6 June 2013, with Epson China offering to provide free repair services to the faulty printers as well as undertaking overall examinations on them to ensure that they are safe to use.
