Representatives met in Hamburg to discuss the future of the fight.
A two-day ‘exchange of ideas’ between representatives of the General Customs Directorate, the Action Group Against Product and Brand Piracy, and a variety of businesses was held in Hamburg this week, to discuss the ongoing fight against product and brand piracy. Piracy is causing increasing economic damage; the counterfeit trade is not only negatively affecting the consumer, but also competitiveness in industry, and the European employment situation.
The aim of the dialogue was to exchange views on the current challenges posed by brand and product piracy, and to discuss further developments in the fight against it.
The primary focus of the talks was the electronic application procedure, and its processing by the rights holder; cooperation between trademark owners and customs authorities in case of incident was also discussed.
The two-day platform concluded with a visit to the main customs office at the Port of Hamburg, and a chance to observe the work of the Hamburg Customs Authorities.
