Day 2: Awards, Ceremonies and a little overtime

January 27, 2020

Sunday, day two at Paperworld saw more visitors at the show and a full on programme.

Day two opened at 9am and exhibitors had just a few minutes to get to their booths before the first meetings got underway and the pace in the hall was busy all day.

No show would be complete without the usual customs inspection which took place on XYZ booth and this year was a much more low key affair than in previous years.

Day two’s busy The Recycler Live seminar programme opened with industry favourite Zoltan Matyas Business Development Manager at Integral presenting his Premium Brand Strategy look at encouraging the industry to focus on more niche and profitable opportunities where there is double digit growth in the independent copier sector.

Gerwald van der Gijp, Vice President & Managing Director, Armor Office Printing Solutions EMEA, talked about Armor and how they transformed a traditional office printing supplies company in a high-tech company that is ready for the future.

The impact of Amazon is always a talking point, so any presentation about “Pulling business from Amazon” is worth taking. Nubeprint CEO, Antonio Sanchez talked about how you can pull the purchase towards yourself and recover that business. The clincher is that NO technical knowledge required and only a very small investment, to generate bigger returns.

What happens in Brussels should definitely not stay in Brussels. So “The Brussels Beat” was an update on what’s current in the EU agenda and the challenges for the European market and is presented by Vincent van Dijk, Secretary General, Etira.

In June 2019 ETIRA adopted a new, ETIRA 2.0, mandate to reflect where the industry is today and the challenges that are in the market today. ETIRA President, Javier Martinez addressed the new 2.0 mandate and the market challenges and opportunities.

HP is in the news first with their new strategy and then more recently with the takeover bid from Xerox. The takeover is a decision for the respective shareholders, but Peter Mayhew, Director & Senior Analyst, Lightwords Imaging dived into the HP “Advance, Transform, Disrupt” strategy and this presentation, Peter considers the motives behind this radical move by HP and exploreed the implications and sensitivities for printer and supplies customers, channel partners, competitor OEM’s and the aftermarket industry.

Ninestar held a signing ceremony to announce their new strategic partnership with their German distributor Tonerdumping immediately prior to The Recycler Live awards announcements and presentations.

The Recycler Awards took place at the end of the day and the winners are:

The 2020 Remanufacturer of the year was awarded to ETIRA member Effective Consumable Solutions (UK) for the second year running. Static Control Components won the 2020 Supplier of the Year award and Simon Grimes received the award from The Recycler’s Editor and Publisher, Stefanie Unland.
