Canon surpasses HP on inkjet
June 7, 2012
The Japanese OEM holds the largest market percentage for inkjet printers in China for the first time, ahead of HP.
China Daily has reported that Canon has become the largest inkjet printer manufacturer in the Chinese market, holding the largest market share at the end of Q4 2011, a spot typically held by rival OEM HP.
According to research conducted by the IDC, Canon holds 41 percent of the inkjet market in China, in stark contrast to its position in 2008, when the OEM held only 23 percent and ranked eighth in the country.
The OEM has also recently announced its highest full-year profit forecast since 2008, from ¥250 billion ($3.15 billion/€2.5 billion) to ¥290 billion ($3.65 billion/€2.9 billion).
This announcement comes despite Canon’s intentions in early January, stating that the OEM would be pulling focus away from printers and into medical equipment and professional movie cameras.
