Apex stated that its replacement chips for use in the Samsung CLT-406S cartridges work, as “according to market feedback, some CLT-406 series cartridges can trigger firmware updates in printers after installation”, and that “some replacement chips cannot be recognised in the new updated printers”.
Apex noted that “after testing and verifying, Apex chips for CLT-406 series now work in the updated printers. Apex will continue to conduct analysis to prevent future firmware lockouts”. It also noted that models “involved in this upgrade” included the CMYK chips it has launched globally to replace the CLT-K, C, M and Y-406S originals, used in a wide range of CLP, CLX and SL-C printers.
In turn, it noted that “possible upgraded models” include a wide range of its chips for other Samsung cartridges, including: the MLD-D101S and X; MLT-D117S; CLT-K, C, M and Y-504S; CLT-K, C, M and Y506S; CLT-K, C, M and Y-506S; CLT-K, C, M and Y506L; CLT-K, C, M and Y-505L; CLT-K, C, M and Y405S; MLT-D358S; CLT-K, C, M and Y659S; MLT-D709S; and CLT-K, C, M and Y809S.
Ninestar meanwhile added that based on the same “market feedback”, OEM chips for use in the machines may cause “some compatible toner cartridges” to not “be recognised by upgraded printers”, but “after testing, Ninestar’s relevant toner cartridges can be recognised by the upgraded printers”, so users should “feel free to use” them. The cartridges affected are the company’s replacements for the 406S originals.
