Advice on how to build an MPS offering

November 11, 2015

mps fleet managementAn article by a technology journalist looks at print service apps and opportunities in the architecture and healthcare industries.

The piece on TechTarget first mentions Southern Solutions, an authorised Xerox sales agency and MPS provider that has developed two apps to add value to its offering and attract new customers. The first is Contact Us, which streamlines the service requests and supplies process, allowing customers to use their Xerox devices to send requests to the relevant reseller partner, reducing a normally three- or four-step order to a two-step process.

Southern Solution also developed the Firmware Connect App, which automatically updates firmware issued by the printer manufacturer to add new functions or security enhancements. Other providers are looking at providing “equipment-agnostic” solutions to niche markets, such as US group Arc Document Solutions, which has geared its services to the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industries.

Its equipment offering includes laser printers, high-end MFPs, toner and paper, giving customers a single image rate regardless of where an image is produced. It created the Abacus app, which works with Arc’s MPS offering to bring together small-format, wide-format and off-site printing into one programme. Direct prints outside the office are streamlined, particularly with Arc’s nationwide reprography centres, minimising how long clients have to spend thinking about printing.

There are also opportunities in the healthcare vertical, shown by Auxilio, Inc., which has developed a “full financial risk model” for handling all devices in a healthcare setting, including clinical label-type printers.

The company acquires the devices and installs and updates them, replacing toner cartridges and paying all invoices on the client’s behalf on equipment leases. Electronic health records are currently reducing paper volumes in the health sector. Fixed costs enable the provider to manage the entire fleets of devices and prevent a local supplier “overselling a client”. The company also collaborates with partners that provide products such as electronic faxing, electronic signatures and document management.
