The items were impounded from two large counterfeiting dens by Huaian police in Suzhou, with more than $2 million (€1.8 million) worth of cartridges and a large amount of HP packaging and equipment seized.
Two gang leaders have been arrested and face criminals charges, the leader of which became involved with the production and sale of counterfeit cartridges in 2011, Good China Brand reported. HP worked closely with local law enforcement to organise the seizure, which targeted two producing groups with “a wide range of distribution channels”, in particular to Yunnan, Guangxi and Fujian.
Since January 2015, more than 2.8 million counterfeit HP toner cartridges have been seized, across 43 cities in 25 different provinces in China, valued at more than $32.9 million (€29.7 million).
